वृत्त्यर्थ फलमूलानि समाहर्तु ययु: किल । “वहाँ पहुँचकर कठोर व्रतका पालन करनेवाले वे महाभाग महर्षि जीवन-निर्वाहके निमित्त फल-मूल लानेके लिये वनमें गये ।।

Transliteration

vṛttyartha-phala-mūlāni samāhartu yayuḥ kila | teṣāṃ vṛttyarthināṃ tatra vasatāṃ himavad-vane ||

Translation

Vaiśampāyana nói: Để tìm phương kế sinh nhai, họ quả đã đi hái trái và đào rễ. Vì thế, khi những vị khổ hạnh ấy sống trong rừng Hi-mã-lạp-sơn, chỉ nhắm đến việc duy trì mạng sống, họ bèn thu nhặt thứ lương thực mộc mạc của rừng—câu chuyện làm nổi bật một đời sống kỷ luật và tiết chế, mưu sinh mà không tham cầu, không gây tổn hại.
