अपां पतिं प्रचक्रुर्हि विधिदृष्टेन कर्मणा । तब वरुणने उन देवताओंसे कहा--'एवमस्तु”। इस प्रकार उनकी अनुमति पाकर सब देवता इकट्ठे होकर उन्होंने समुद्रनिवासी वरुणको शास्त्रीय विधिके अनुसार जलका राजा बना दिया
apāṃ patiṃ pracakrur hi vidhidṛṣṭena karmaṇā | tataḥ varuṇena te devatābhyaḥ uktam— “evam astu” | evaṃ tasya anumatiṃ prāpya sarve devāḥ samāgatya samudranivāsiṇaṃ varuṇaṃ śāstrīyavidhinā jalasya rājānaṃ cakruḥ |
Vaiśampāyana nói: Theo nghi lễ đúng như thánh điển quy định, chư thiên đã lập một vị chúa tể của muôn dòng nước. Bấy giờ Varuṇa thưa với các thần: “Xin cứ như vậy.” Được sự thuận nhận của Ngài, tất cả chư thiên hội tụ và, theo thủ tục kinh điển, tôn lập Varuṇa—đấng ngự nơi đại dương—làm vua của nước.
