इस प्रकार श्रीमह्याभारत शल्यपर्वके अन्तर्गत गदापवरमें दुर्योधन-युधिष्ठिरसंवादविषयक इकतीसवाँ अध्याय पूरा हुआ

Transliteration

gadāyā tvāṃ mahābāho vijeṣyāmi sahānujam | mahābāho! gadayā bhātr̥bhiḥ saha tvāṃ pāñcālān sṛñjayāṃś ca ye cānye tava sainikāḥ tān api sarvān jayiṣyāmi | yudhiṣṭhira! mamendra-samād api kadācana na bhayaṃ bhavati ||

Translation

Duryodhana tuyên bố với Yudhiṣṭhira, bằng dáng điệu của một chiến binh say men kiêu mạn: “Hỡi bậc đại dũng (mighty-armed), với cây chùy này ta sẽ đánh bại ngươi cùng các em ngươi. Cũng bằng chùy này, ta sẽ khuất phục người Pāñcāla, người Sṛñjaya và mọi đạo quân khác đứng về phía ngươi. Yudhiṣṭhira, ta chưa từng biết sợ—dẫu là Indra.” Lời nói ấy đặt cuộc đấu không còn là sự cân nhắc theo dharma, mà là một lời khoe quyền lực, phơi bày sự ngạo mạn và khinh miệt mọi khuôn phép, đẩy chiến tranh đến cơn bạo liệt cuối cùng.
