स्वस्ति प्राप्तुत भद्रं व: स्वर्गे न: संगम: पुन: । इत्येवमुक्त्वा तूष्णी स कुरुराजो महामना:,“तुम सब लोगोंका कल्याण हो। तुम्हें सुख प्राप्त हो। अब स्वर्गमें ही हमलोगोंका पुनर्मिलन होगा।/ ऐसा कहकर महामनस्वी वीर कुरुराज दुर्योधन चुप हो गया और अपने सुहृदोंके लिये दुःख छोड़कर उसने अपने प्राण त्याग दिये। वह स्वयं तो पुण्यधाम स्वर्गलोकमें चला गया; किंतु उसका पार्थिव शरीर इस पृथ्वीपर ही पड़ा रह गया
svasti prāptuta bhadraṃ vaḥ svarge naḥ saṅgamaḥ punaḥ | ityevam uktvā tūṣṇīṃ sa kururājo mahāmanāḥ ||
Sañjaya nói: “Nguyện phúc lành đến với các ngươi; nguyện các ngươi được an lạc. Trên cõi trời, ắt chúng ta sẽ gặp lại nhau.” Nói xong, vị vua Kuru cao cả ấy lặng im. Trong nỗi bi thương của lời từ biệt với bạn hữu, Duryodhana trút bỏ mạng sống—tự thân đi về cõi trời công đức, còn thân xác phàm tục thì nằm lại trên mặt đất.
