सो<यं दुर्योधनेनार्थों लुब्धेनादीर्घदर्शिना,वार्यमाणो5करोद् वैरं पाण्डवैर्गुणवत्तरै: । दुर्योधन लोभी और अदूरदर्शी था। उसने मूर्खतावश न तो किसीका समर्थन प्राप्त किया और न स्वयं ही अधिक सोच-विचार किया। उसने अपना हित चाहनेवाले लोगोंका अनादर करके दुष्टोंक साथ सलाह की और सबके मना करनेपर भी अधिक गुणवान् पाण्डवोंके साथ वैर बाँध लिया
so ’yaṁ duryodhanenārtho lubdhenādīrghadarśinā | vāryamāṇo ’karod vairaṁ pāṇḍavair guṇavattaraiḥ ||
Vì thế, Duryodhana—kẻ tham lam và thiếu tầm nhìn xa—đã tự chuốc lấy tai họa này. Dẫu nhiều lần bị ngăn can và khuyên răn, hắn vẫn chọn kết thù với các Pāṇḍava, những người trội hơn về đức hạnh và phẩm chất. Bài kệ nêu rõ: khinh miệt người thiện tâm và nghe theo lời bàn thiển cận do dục vọng thúc đẩy, rốt cuộc sẽ kết trái thành xung đột dẫn đến diệt vong.
