Duryodhana’s Description of Tribute at the Rājasūya

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical tension between ridicule and restraint: public mockery can inflame honor-based anger, and the inability to endure insult (amarṣaṇa) becomes a catalyst for further conflict.

In the assembly-hall context, Arjuna and the twin brothers (Nakula and Sahadeva), along with others, laugh at someone; the person described as amarṣaṇa—unable to bear affront—cannot tolerate their derision, setting the stage for a hostile reaction.
