Duryodhana’s Description of Tribute at the Rājasūya
The verse highlights how outcomes in political-ethical conflicts are often judged through the lens of power: Duryodhana brands Kṛṣṇa’s action as improper, yet admits it became effective because it was backed by the Pāṇḍavas’ strength and standing—raising the tension between moral evaluation (dharma/adharma) and practical success (siddhi).
Duryodhana comments resentfully on a significant intervention by Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa). He concedes that the act—though, in his view, unethical—achieved its intended result because the Pāṇḍavas, described as noble and formidable, had the prowess to make it succeed.
