Prelude to Karṇa’s Slaying
पत्तय: पत्तिसंघांश्ष हयसंघांश्व॒ पत्तय: । पत्तयो रथमातड्जन् रथा हस्त्यश्वमेव च
pattayaḥ pattisaṅghāṁś ca hayasaṅghāṁś ca pattayaḥ | pattayo ratham ātaḍjan rathā hastyaśvam eva ca ||
Sañjaya thưa: Bộ binh đánh tan từng đám bộ binh và từng đám kỵ binh; rồi bộ binh lại xông vào chiến xa—cùng cả xa phu, voi và ngựa. Cảnh tượng là một mớ rối bời của chiến địa, nơi mọi binh chủng quay sang công kích lẫn nhau trong sức ép của trận chiến, cho thấy bạo lực một khi đã được thả ra thì lan tràn khắp mọi hàng ngũ, không còn kiềm chế.
