हयान्‌ ध्वजं धनुर्मष्टिमुभी च पार्ष्णिसारथी । अवाकिरत्‌ ततो द्रोण: शरवर्षै: सहस्रश:,द्रोणने सत्यजित॒के घोड़ों, ध्वज, धनुषकी मुष्टि तथा दोनों पार्श्वरक्षकोंपर सहस्रों बाणोंकी वर्षा की

sañjaya uvāca | hayān dhvajaṃ dhanurmuṣṭim ubhī ca pārṣṇisārathī | avākirat tato droṇaḥ śaravarṣaiḥ sahasraśaḥ ||

Sañjaya nói: Rồi Droṇa trút xuống muôn ngàn mũi tên như mưa, đánh trúng những con ngựa, lá cờ, chỗ nắm của cây cung, cùng cả hai người hộ vệ bên sườn và người đánh xe. Cảnh ấy phơi bày sự chính xác lạnh lùng của nghệ thuật chiến trường—khi việc làm tê liệt các điểm tựa của chiến xa trở thành một mưu lược, làm dấy lên căng thẳng đạo lý giữa bổn phận võ sĩ và sự hung bạo ngày càng leo thang của chiến tranh.
