Garuḍa Array and the Ardhacandra Counter-Formation
हत॑ भीष्मममन्यन्त श्वेतस्य वशमागतम् । भीष्मके ध्वजको नीचे गिरा देख आपके पुत्रोंने उन्हें श्वेतके वशमें पड़कर मरा हुआ ही माना || ५८ है || पाण्डवाश्चापि संहृष्टा दध्मु: शड्खान् मुदा युता:
pāṇḍavāś cāpi saṁhṛṣṭā dadhmuḥ śaṅkhān mudā yutāḥ
Sañjaya nói: “Họ tưởng Bhīṣma đã bị hạ, đã rơi vào tay Śveta. Còn các Pāṇḍava thì hân hoan, vui mừng thổi những tù và ốc.”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how collective signals (like blowing conches) sustain courage and unity in a righteous struggle. Even in war’s ethical tension, disciplined morale and steadfast resolve are presented as part of kṣatriya-dharma when the cause is understood as just.
Sañjaya reports that the Pāṇḍavas, encouraged by the turn of events on the battlefield, exultantly blow their conch-shells. The sound functions as a public declaration of confidence and a rallying signal to their forces.
