भीष्म जुगुपुरासाद्य तव पुत्रेण नोदिता: । दुर्मुख, कृतवर्मा, कृपाचार्य तथा राजा शल्य आपके पुत्रकी आज्ञासे आकर भीष्मकी रक्षा करने लगे
sañjaya uvāca |
bhīṣmaṃ jugupur āsādya tava putreṇa noditāḥ |
durmukhaḥ kṛtavarmā kṛpācāryas tathā rājā śalyaḥ tava putrasyājñayā āgatya bhīṣmasya rakṣāṃ kartum ārabdhavantaḥ ||
Sañjaya nói: Được con trai của ngài thúc giục, họ áp sát quanh Bhīṣma để che chở cho ông. Durmukha, Kṛtavarmā, Kripācārya và vua Śalya—đến theo mệnh lệnh của con trai ngài—bắt đầu canh giữ và bảo vệ Bhīṣma.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the tension between loyalty to one’s leader and the broader demands of dharma: in war, warriors often act from obedience and group duty, rallying to protect their commander, even when the conflict itself is ethically complex.
At Duryodhana’s urging, key Kaurava-aligned fighters—Durmukha, Kritavarma, Kripacharya, and King Shalya—move in to guard Bhishma, forming a protective screen around him on the battlefield.
