किंचिच्छेषे दिनकरे पुत्राणां तव पश्यताम् | इस प्रकार आपके ताऊ भीष्म युद्धस्थलमें अर्जुनके तीखे बाणोंसे अत्यन्त विद्ध हो गये थे--उनका शरीर छिदकर छलनी हो रहा था। वे उसी अवस्थामें
sañjaya uvāca | kiṃciccheṣe dinakare putrāṇāṃ tava paśyatām | hāheti divi devānāṃ pārthivānāṃ ca bhārata, patamāne rathād bhīṣme babhūva sumahāsvanaḥ ||
Sañjaya nói: Khi mặt trời chỉ còn lại chút ít ánh sáng, trước chính mắt các con trai của bệ hạ, Bhīṣma—bị những mũi tên sắc của Arjuna đâm xuyên liên tiếp—đã ngã khỏi chiến xa, đầu quay về hướng đông.
