ततस्तस्य च तेषां च युद्धे देवासुरोपमे । किरीटी भीष्ममागच्छत्‌ पुरस्कृत्य शिखण्डिनम्‌,तदनन्तर भीष्म तथा उन योद्धाओंमें देवासुर-संग्रामके समान भयंकर युद्ध होने लगा। इसी बीचमें किरीटथधारी अर्जुन शिखण्डीको आगे करके भीष्मके समीप जा पहुँचे

tatas tasya ca teṣāṁ ca yuddhe devāsuropame | kirīṭī bhīṣmam āgacchat puraskṛtya śikhaṇḍinam ||

Rồi khi trận chiến giữa Bhīṣma và những chiến binh ấy bùng lên dữ dội—khủng khiếp như cuộc giao tranh huyền thoại giữa chư thiên và loài asura—Arjuna, người đội vương miện, tiến đến gần Bhīṣma, đặt Śikhaṇḍin ở phía trước. Cảnh ấy cho thấy đạo lý chiến tranh nghiệt ngã: mưu lược không chỉ do sức mạnh quyết định, mà còn do lời thề, danh dự và những ràng buộc đạo đức mà các chiến sĩ vẫn thừa nhận ngay giữa cảnh tàn sát.
