भीष्मस्य अप्रतिमपराक्रमः — शिखण्डिपुरस्कृतः प्रहारः
Bhīṣma’s unmatched momentum and the assault with Śikhaṇḍin in the lead
विराटद्रुपदौ वृद्धौ समेतावरिमर्दनौ । अश्रृत्थामा ततः क्रुद्धो वारयामास भारत
virāṭa-drupadau vṛddhau sametāv ari-mardanau | aśvatthāmā tataḥ kruddho vārayāmāsa bhārata ||
Sañjaya thưa: Hỡi Bhārata, hai vị lão vương Virāṭa và Drupada—đều lừng danh là kẻ nghiền nát quân thù—đã cùng nhau tiến lên. Bấy giờ Aśvatthāmā, bừng bừng phẫn nộ, lao tới để chặn và ghìm họ lại. Câu kệ cho thấy cơn giận nơi chiến địa biến cuộc chạm trán thành cuộc so sức, khiến cả bậc trưởng lão cũng bị cuốn vào hiểm nguy, dù tuổi tác và địa vị mang theo sức nặng đạo lý.
