The verse frames war-reporting through a dharmic lens: even amid violence, the focus is on disciplined effort (yatna), prowess, and the ethical weight of a clash between teacher (Droṇa) and disciple (Arjuna), highlighting duty and the tragic complexity of righteous conduct in civil war.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra questions Sañjaya about the specific encounter between Droṇa and Arjuna—how the two foremost warriors came face to face in the battlefield and fought with determined exertion.
