Adhyāya 90: Babhruvāhana’s Reception and the Commencement of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Aśvamedha
श्षशुर उवाच वातातपविशीर्णाज्ीं त्वां विवर्णा निरीक्ष्य वै । कर्षितों सुव्रताचारे क्षुधाविद्वलचेतसम्
śvaśura uvāca vāta-ātapa-viśīrṇāṅgīṁ tvāṁ vivarṇāṁ nirīkṣya vai | karśitāṁ suvratācāre kṣudhā-vidvala-cetasam ||
Người cha chồng nói: “Thấy con—thân thể tàn tạ vì gió và nắng, sắc diện phai nhạt, gầy mòn dù con là người giữ giới và nết hạnh tốt đẹp, lại thêm tâm trí bấn loạn vì nỗi khổ đói—ta không thể nỡ lấy dù chỉ phần sattu (bột lúa mạch rang) thuộc về con. Nếu làm vậy, ta sẽ thành kẻ làm tổn hại dharma. Bởi thế, hỡi người cát tường, người có hạnh lành vì điều thiện, con chớ nói như thế.”
