Adhyāya 90: Babhruvāhana’s Reception and the Commencement of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Aśvamedha
नशा (0) आफजअन+- नवतितमो< ध्याय: युधिछिरके यज्ञमें एक नेवलेका उछ्छवृत्तिधारी ब्राह्मणके द्वारा किये गये सेरभर सत्तूदानकी महिमा उस अश्वमेधयज्ञसे भी बढ़कर बतलाना जनमेजय उवाच पितामहस्य मे यज्ञे धर्मराजस्य धीमत: । यदाश्चर्यमभूत् किंचित् तद् भवान् वक्तुमहति
Janamejaya uvāca | pitāmahasya me yajñe dharmarājasya dhīmataḥ | yad āścaryam abhūt kiñcit tad bhavān vaktum arhati ||
Janamejaya thưa: “Bạch bậc tôn kính, trong lễ tế của tổ phụ ta—Đức Dharmarāja (Yudhiṣṭhira) trí tuệ—nếu đã xảy ra điều gì khác thường hay kỳ diệu, xin người từ bi thuật lại cho ta nghe.”
जनमेजय उवाच
The verse models respectful inquiry into dharma: a listener seeks not mere spectacle but meaningful narration about a righteous king’s sacrificial context, implying that ethical significance is to be learned through attentive questioning and authoritative instruction.
King Janamejaya requests the narrator to describe any extraordinary incident that occurred during the sacrifice performed by his forefather, the wise Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira—setting up the forthcoming account of a notable event connected with that yajña.
