Educational Q&A

Even amid warfare, a leader upholds dharma through honoring merit and strengthening a warrior’s resolve; praise and respect function as ethical reinforcement of one’s appointed duty (kṣatriya-dharma) rather than mere flattery.

The speaker narrates that a figure on the battlefield pays honor to Dhṛtavarmā and, for a brief time, mentally commends him, thereby increasing his enthusiasm and confidence in the fight.
