Ethics of Non-attachment
अर्चयन्नतिथीन् काले दद्याच्चापि प्रतिश्रयम् । फलपत्रावरैर्मूले: श्यामाकेन च वर्तयन्,अतिथिको आश्रय दे और समयपर उनका सत्कार करे। जंगली फल, मूल, पत्ता अथवा सावाँ खाकर जीवन-निर्वाह करे
arcayann atithīn kāle dadyāc cāpi pratiśrayam | phalapatrāvarair mūlaiḥ śyāmākena ca vartayan ||
Vāyu nói: “Đúng thời, hãy kính trọng khách đến thăm và cũng ban cho họ chỗ nương trú. Tự nuôi thân bằng trái rừng, lá, rễ—hoặc cả hạt śyāmāka—mà sống, không bao giờ xao lãng bổn phận hiếu khách.”
वायुदेव उवाच
Even with minimal resources, one must uphold atithi-dharma: receive guests respectfully, at the right time, and provide them shelter; personal austerity should never become an excuse for neglecting hospitality.
Vāyudeva is instructing on righteous conduct, describing an ideal mode of living where one survives on simple forest foods while still honoring and housing guests who arrive.
