Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the Mahābhārata’s emphasis on lineage and exemplarity: a worthy elder is remembered as a ‘standard’ among warriors, suggesting that martial skill is ideally joined with recognized excellence and auspicious character within a family line.

Vyāsa continues a genealogical account, naming the eldest among a group as Viṁśa—praised as an exemplar among archers—and then naming his son as Viviṁśa, addressing the listener as Bhārata (Janamejaya).
