शिष्य उवाच कुतश्चाहं कुतश्च त्वं तत्सत्यं ब्रूहि यत्परम्‌ । कुतो जातानि भूतानि स्थावराणि चराणि च,शिष्य बोला--विप्रवर! मैं कहाँसे आया हूँ और आप कहाँसे आये हैं? जगत्‌के चराचर जीव कहाँसे उत्पन्न हुए हैं? जो परमतत्त्व है, उसे आप यशथार्थरूपसे बताइये

śiṣya uvāca | kutaścāhaṃ kutaśca tvaṃ tatsatyaṃ brūhi yatparam | kuto jātāni bhūtāni sthāvarāṇi carāṇi ca ||

Người đệ tử thưa: “Bạch bậc Bà-la-môn tối thượng, con từ đâu đến, còn thầy từ đâu đến? Xin nói cho con biết chân thật về thực tại tối thượng. Muôn loài hữu tình từ nguồn nào mà sinh ra—cả loài bất động lẫn loài động?”
