Adhyāya 34: Kṣetrajña-Lakṣaṇa and the Araṇi Metaphor

Mind–Intellect Allegory

सम्यगुपायो दृष्टश्न॒ भ्रमरैरिव लक्ष्यते । कर्मबुद्धिरबुद्धित्वाज्ज्ञानलिज्जैरिवाश्रितम्‌

samyag upāyo dṛṣṭaś ca bhramarair iva lakṣyate | karmabuddhir abuddhitvāj jñānalijjair ivāśritam ||

Bà-la-môn nói: “Đã thấy rõ một phương tiện trọn vẹn và đúng đắn để chứng ngộ Thực tại ấy. Nó tự được biết đến—như hương thơm được ong cảm nhận—khi người ta buông bỏ chính hành vi ‘cố nhìn’ nó. Nhưng trí năng bám vào hành động, kỳ thực là một dạng vô trí, chỉ có vẻ giống tri thức chứ không phải tri thức. Vì vậy, sự chứng ngộ ấy không thể đạt được chỉ bằng việc làm.”

Realization is not produced by action; it becomes evident when the compulsive effort of ‘doing’ and the action-centered mindset are relinquished. Karma-oriented intellect can mimic knowledge but does not equal liberating insight.

A Brahmin speaker instructs the listener using an analogy: just as bees find fragrance without forcing it into being, the sought Reality is recognized naturally when one abandons the attempt to grasp it through activity.
