The verse frames ethical instruction by introducing an ‘ancient exemplum’—a husband–wife dialogue—implying that dharma and right understanding can be taught through household discourse and traditional precedent.
Vāyudeva announces that, to illuminate the present topic, an old illustrative story will be cited: a conversation that once occurred between a married couple, addressed to Arjuna (Pārtha).
