धृतराष्ट्रस्य पाण्डवेषु प्रीति-वृत्तान्तः | Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Affectionate Disposition toward the Pāṇḍavas

Vaiśampāyana nói: “Hỡi bậc tối thượng trong loài người, ta chẳng cầu sự sống, cũng chẳng cầu quyền bá chủ cõi đất. Hỡi đức vua, kẻ thiêu đốt quân thù—điều gì là điều vua yêu quý, chỉ điều ấy ta nguyện thực hiện.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights self-effacement and duty: the speaker renounces personal claims to life or worldly power and places the other’s rightful wish above personal desire, presenting an ethic of loyalty, restraint, and dharma-guided action.
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, a character expresses to a king that he seeks neither survival nor rulership; instead, he is ready to act solely according to what the king considers proper and dear—signaling submission to the king’s decision and a renunciant, duty-first stance.
