माण्डव्यशापाद्धि स वै धर्मो विदुरतां गत: । महाबुद्धिर्महायोगी महात्मा सुमहामना:,“माण्डव्य मुनिके शापसे धर्म ही विदुररूपमें अवतीर्ण हुए थे। वे परम बुद्धिमान, महान् योगी, महात्मा और महामनस्वी थे
māṇḍavyaśāpād dhi sa vai dharmo viduratāṃ gataḥ | mahābuddhir mahāyogī mahātmā sumahāmanāḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana nói: “Chính vì lời nguyền của hiền giả Māṇḍavya mà Dharma đã nhập vào thân phận Vidura. Trong hình hài ấy, ông là bậc trí tuệ tuyệt luân, một đại yogin, một đại hồn, với tâm chí cao cả khôn lường.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse frames Vidura’s extraordinary ethical clarity as the manifestation of Dharma himself, while also stressing that even divine embodiments operate within the moral logic of cause and consequence (here, the impetus is Māṇḍavya’s curse).
Vaiśampāyana identifies Vidura’s true nature: Dharma, compelled by Māṇḍavya’s curse, took birth/assumed existence as Vidura, and is therefore described with epithets of spiritual and intellectual greatness.
