Adhyāya 16 — Daiva, Kṣatriya-dharma, and Public Reassurance to Dhṛtarāṣṭra
niṣaṇṇāḥ kuravaś caiva tadā me śvaśurādayaḥ | sā daivaṃ nātham icchantī vyalapat kurarī yathā ||
When injustice occurs, the passive silence of those with authority becomes a moral failure; in such abandonment, the afflicted seek refuge in the Divine as the last protector.
In recollection of the dice-hall outrage, the Kuru elders sit helplessly while Draupadī, desperate for protection, cries out in anguish—likened to the plaintive cry of a kurarī-bird.
