Ādi Parva, Adhyāya 68 — Sarvadamana’s Childhood and Śakuntalā’s Claim at Court
imaṃ tu bhūya icchāmi kurūṇāṃ vaṃśam āditaḥ | kathyamānaṃ tvayā vipra viparṣigaṇa-saṃnidhau ||
Janamejaya nói: “Nhưng nay con lại muốn được nghe, từ thuở ban đầu, dòng dõi của nhà Kuru—bạch Bà-la-môn—xin ngài thuật lại ngay tại đây, trước hội chúng các bậc đại hiền triết.”
जनमेजय उवाच
The verse underscores the Itihasa method: dharma and royal legitimacy are understood through careful remembrance of lineage and origins, narrated by qualified sages in a learned assembly.
King Janamejaya requests the narrator to retell, from the very beginning, the genealogy of the Kuru dynasty, and he emphasizes that the account is to be delivered before an assembly of eminent seers.
