Educational Q&A

Ambition for power (rājya) becomes ethically destructive when it overrides kinship duties and is fueled by manipulative counsel; the verse frames Duryodhana’s conduct as deliberate oppression achieved through calculated stratagems, signaling a drift from dharma toward adharma.

Vaiśampāyana reports that Duryodhana, encouraged by Śakuni’s advice, repeatedly troubles the Pāṇḍavas through multiple schemes, motivated by the desire to secure or monopolize the kingdom.
