Bhrigu Lineage Preface and the Pulomā–Agni Dialogue

yad adhītaṃ ca pitrā me samyak caiva tato mayā | tāvac chṛṇuṣva yo devaiḥ sendraiḥ sarṣimarudgaṇaiḥ ||

Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes faithful transmission of sacred knowledge through lineage and disciplined study: what the father learned well is learned again from him, and then responsibly narrated. It also models reverence for venerable lineages honored by gods and sages.

Śaunaka introduces his source-credibility—he learned from his father what his father had mastered—and invites the listener (addressed as a Bhṛgu-descendant) to hear an account of the illustrious Bhṛgu/Bhārgava lineage, revered by the gods, Indra, the ṛṣis, and the Maruts.
