भृगुवंश-प्रस्तावना तथा पुलोमा–अग्नि-संवादः

तत्र वंशमहं पूर्व श्रोतुमिच्छामि भार्गवम् | कथयस्व कथामेतां कल्या: सम श्रवणे तव,उनमेंसे प्रथम तो मैं भूगुवंशका ही वर्णन सुनना चाहता हूँ। अत: आप इसीसे सम्बन्ध रखनेवाली कथा कहिये। हम सब लोग आपकी कथा सुननेके लिये सर्वथा उद्यत हैं
tatra vaṁśam ahaṁ pūrvaṁ śrotum icchāmi bhārgavam | kathayasva kathām etāṁ kalyāḥ sma śravaṇe tava ||
“Trong đó, trước hết ta muốn được nghe về dòng dõi Bhārgava. Vậy xin hãy thuật lại chính câu chuyện liên quan đến họ. Tất cả chúng ta đều đã sẵn sàng và khát khao lắng nghe lời ngươi tụng kể.”
