Śaunaka thưa với Agni: “Hỡi Thần Lửa, Ngài hằng ngự trong lòng mọi loài. Là chứng nhân toàn tri đối với công đức và tội lỗi, xin hãy nói lời chân thật, hỡi bậc hiền tri—hãy tuyên bố điều gì là thực.”

Truth is demanded from one who is a universal witness: Agni is invoked as dwelling within all beings and observing merit and sin, implying that ethical reality is knowable and that testimony should align with truth (satya) grounded in dharma.
Śaunaka directly petitions Agni to speak truthfully. He justifies the request by describing Agni’s omnipresence within creatures and his role as a witness to moral actions, thereby establishing Agni’s authority to give reliable, dharmic information.
