Educational Q&A

The verse presents an ethical ideal: true excellence combines spiritual discipline (tapas), learning (śruti-based knowledge), realization (brahmavidyā), and moral integrity—especially truthfulness, righteousness, and regulated living (self-control and moderation).

Śaunaka is describing a revered person by listing virtues and qualifications—ascetic practice, fame, scriptural learning, Brahman-knowledge, righteousness, truthfulness, and disciplined habits—thereby establishing the figure’s authority and character within the ongoing account.
