Aurva Episode: Restoration of Sight and Restraint of World-Destructive Anger
आरात् तिष्ठत मा महां समीपमुपसर्पत । कस्मान्मां नाभिजानीत प्राप्त भागीरथीजलम्,“अरे, ओ मनुष्यो! दूर ही खड़े रहो। मेरे समीप न आना। तुम्हें ज्ञात कैसे नहीं हुआ कि मैं गन्धर्वराज अंगारपर्ण गंगाजीके जलमें उतरा हुआ हूँ। तुमलोग मुझे (अच्छी तरह) जान लो, मैं अपने ही बलका भरोसा करनेवाला स्वाभिमानी, ईर्ष्यालु तथा कुबेरका प्रिय मित्र हूँ
ārāt tiṣṭhata mā māṁ samīpam upasarpata | kasmān māṁ nābhijānīta prāpta-bhāgīrathī-jalam |
Vaiśampāyana nói: “Hãy đứng lùi xa; đừng đến gần ta. Sao các ngươi không nhận ra ta, nay khi ta đã bước vào dòng nước Bhāgīrathī (sông Hằng)?”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical need for discernment and respectful distance in the presence of a powerful or unknown being; recognition (abhijñāna) and appropriate conduct prevent rash, disrespectful approach.
A speaker (reported by Vaiśampāyana) warns a group not to come close and challenges them for failing to recognize him after he has entered the waters of the Bhāgīrathī (Gaṅgā), setting up a tense encounter and self-identification.
