Vasiṣṭhasya śokaḥ, Vipāśā–Śatadrū-nāmākaraṇam, Kalmāṣapādasya bhaya-prasaṅgaḥ (Ādi Parva 167)

दृष्टवा फलस्य नापश्यद्‌ दोषान्‌ पापानुबन्धकान्‌ | विविनक्ति न शौचं य: सोअन्यत्रापि कथं भवेत्‌,“जिन्होंने देखकर भी फलके पापजनक दोषोंकी ओर दृष्टिपात नहीं किया, जो किसी वस्तुको लेनेमें शुद्धि-अशुद्धिका विचार नहीं करते, वे दूसरे कार्योंमें भी कैसा बर्ताव करेंगे, कहा नहीं जा सकता

dṛṣṭvā phalasya nāpaśyad doṣān pāpānubandhakān | vivinakti na śaucaṃ yaḥ so 'nyatrāpi kathaṃ bhavet ||

Thấy lợi trước mắt, họ chẳng nhận ra những lỗi lầm kéo theo như bóng của tội. Kẻ không biết phân biệt thanh–uế khi nhận lấy một vật, thì làm sao có thể trông đợi người ấy hành xử đúng đắn trong những việc khác? Thật khó mà nói được.
