Arjuna–Gandharva Dialogue on Honor, Night-Power, and Purohita-Nīti
The verse highlights a dharmic responsibility: the strong and present must protect dependents. The child’s survival is tied to the guardian’s continued support, underscoring the ethical weight of abandoning one’s duties through death or withdrawal.
Vaiśaṃpāyana reports a speaker’s urgent concern: if the addressed person dies (goes to the other world), the speaker’s young brother—still helpless—will soon be ruined. It is a plea grounded in family obligation and the practical consequences of loss.
