Ādi Parva, Adhyāya 147 — Kanyā-paridevita
The daughter’s lament on lineage and protection
The verse highlights an ethical warning: wealth and allies can empower an unrighteous person to oppress others, showing how external power without dharma becomes a tool of continual harm.
Vaiśampāyana describes how Duryodhana, backed by resources (a treasury) and supporters, persistently troubles the opposing side (implicitly the Pāṇḍavas and their well-wishers), emphasizing the imbalance created by political power and factional support.
