Ruru–Ḍuṇḍubha Saṃvāda: Śāpa, Mokṣa, and Ahiṃsā-Upadeśa
Chapter 11
yattu vakṣyāmi te vākyaṃ śṛṇu tan me tapodhana | śrutvā ca hṛdi te vākyam idam astu sadānagha ||
The verse emphasizes attentive listening and inner retention of wise counsel: instruction is not merely to be heard but to be held steadily in the heart, reflecting the ethical ideal of disciplined receptivity to dharmic guidance.
Ḍuṇḍrubha addresses an ascetic (called tapodhana, ‘wealthy in austerity’) and prefaces an important message, urging the listener to hear carefully and preserve the forthcoming words as enduring guidance.
