विचित्रवीर्य च तदा बालमप्राप्तपयौवनम् | कुरुराज्ये महाबाहुरभ्यषिज्चदनन्तरम्,विचित्रवीर्य अभी बालक थे, युवावस्थामें नहीं पहुँचे थे तो भी महाबाहु भीष्मने उन्हें कुरुदेशके राज्यपर अभिषिक्त कर दिया
vicitravīryaṃ ca tadā bālam aprāptapayauvanam | kururājye mahābāhur abhyasiñcad anantaram ||
Rồi Bhīṣma, bậc dũng sĩ tay mạnh, đã làm lễ đăng quang đặt Vicitravīrya—vẫn còn là một đứa trẻ, chưa tới tuổi thanh niên—lên ngôi chủ quyền xứ Kuru. Hành động ấy nêu bật ý thức bổn phận dòng tộc của Bhīṣma: bảo đảm sự tiếp nối của vương quốc và huyết mạch Kuru dù người thừa kế chưa trưởng thành, đặt sự ổn định của quốc gia lên trên ý riêng.
