Brahmā’s Creation: The Kumāras, Rudra, the Prajāpatis, and the Manifestation of Vedic Sound
This verse states that specific Vedic meters manifest from Brahmā’s body—Paṅkti from his marrow and Bṛhatī from his vital breath—showing that sacred sound patterns are part of cosmic creation.
In Canto 3’s creation narrative, Brahmā functions as the secondary creator; the Bhagavatam portrays elements of Vedic knowledge, including meters used for hymns, as emanating from him as part of ordering the universe.
A devotee can appreciate that mantra and scripture are not merely literature but sacred sound; chanting and recitation with care and rhythm becomes a way to align one’s breath and mind with devotion (bhakti).
