Yayāti, Devayānī, Śarmiṣṭhā, and the Exchange of Youth: The Unsatisfied Nature of Desire
यदुं च तुर्वसुं चैव देवयानी व्यजायत । द्रुह्युं चानुं च पूरुं च शर्मिष्ठा वार्षपर्वणी ॥ ३३ ॥
yaduṁ ca turvasuṁ caiva devayānī vyajāyata druhyuṁ cānuṁ ca pūruṁ ca śarmiṣṭhā vārṣaparvaṇī
Devayānī sinh Yadu và Turvasu; còn Śarmiṣṭhā, con gái Vṛṣaparvā, sinh Druhyu, Anu và Pūru.
This verse states that Devayānī bore Yadu and Turvasu, while Śarmiṣṭhā bore Druhyu, Anu, and Puru.
The Yadu line is especially significant because Śrī Kṛṣṇa later appears in the Yadu dynasty; this verse identifies Yadu as one of the foundational ancestors in that lineage.
They remind a reader that history and family lines unfold under divine supervision, encouraging humility and faith that dharma and devotion shape lasting legacy.
