भैरवोत्पत्तिः ब्रह्मदर्पनिग्रहश्च
Origin of Bhairava and the Subduing of Brahmā’s Pride
स वै तदा तत्र पतिं प्रणम्य शिवमंगणे । किं कार्यं करवाण्यत्र शीघ्रमाज्ञापय प्रभो
sa vai tadā tatra patiṃ praṇamya śivamaṃgaṇe | kiṃ kāryaṃ karavāṇyatra śīghramājñāpaya prabho
A devoted attendant of Śiva (Śiva-gaṇa) addressing Lord Śiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Bhairava
Significance: Models the ideal paśu’s posture before Pati: praṇāma, readiness for ājñā, and service (sevā) as a means of loosening bondage through obedience and humility.
It highlights śaraṇāgati (surrender): the devotee approaches Śiva as Pati (the Lord) with humility and readiness to serve, showing that devotion is expressed through obedient, selfless action rather than ego-driven intention.
The verse reflects Saguna-upāsanā—relating to Śiva as the personal Lord who can be approached, bowed to, and obeyed. In Linga worship, the same attitude is cultivated: offering oneself and one’s actions to Śiva as the indwelling Master.
The takeaway is seva-bhāva with mantra: before pūjā, mentally bow to Śiva and resolve, “Let my actions be Your command,” then perform japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with disciplined attention.
