Rudrākṣa Māhātmya — The Greatness of Rudraksha
saptavaktro maheśāni hyanaṃgo nāma nāmataḥ | dhāraṇāttasya deveśidaridro pīśvaro bhavet
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Mantra: anaṅga
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: nurturing
It teaches that dhāraṇā (steady inner holding) of Shiva’s divine name/form transforms one’s condition—poverty and limitation give way to īśvaratva (mastery), implying inner empowerment and auspiciousness through Shiva’s grace.
The verse points to Saguna upāsanā: meditating on a specific named form of Shiva (here, the seven-faced “Anaṅga”). Such focused contemplation supports devotion that can also be performed before the Shiva-linga as the visible support (ālambana) for inner dhāraṇā.
Practice nāma-dhāraṇā/nāma-japa: repeatedly contemplate and recite the name “Anaṅga” with one-pointed attention, ideally in a Shiva-puja setting (e.g., before the linga, with purity, devotion, and steady mind).
