Pārthiva-Śiva-liṅga-māhātmya
The Excellence of the Earthen Śiva Liṅga
akhaṇḍaṃ taddhi kartavyaṃ na vikhaṇḍaṃ prakārayet | dvikhaṇḍaṃ tu prakurvāṇo naiva pūjāphalaṃ labhet
Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva’s worship-instructions to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Īśāna
The verse teaches that worship must be offered with integrity and reverence—symbolically “unbroken.” In Shaiva Siddhanta, disciplined, respectful ritual supports purity of intention and steadiness of devotion toward Pati (Shiva).
In Linga worship, the offering represents the devotee’s bhakti and orderliness in upacharas. Presenting broken or divided offerings is treated as a lapse in proper procedure (vidhi), diminishing the intended devotional fruit of Saguna Shiva puja.
Offer items in a complete, undamaged form and maintain careful observance of puja-vidhi; pair the offering with steady japa of the Panchakshara mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) to keep devotion “undivided.”
