Ghuśmā–Sudehā: Jealousy, Household Honor, and the Ethics of Śaiva Merit (गुश्मा–सुदेहा प्रसङ्गः)
सूत उवाच । पुरा तदा वरं वव्रे सुप्रणम्य शिवं नता । रक्षणीया त्वया नाथ सुदेहेयं स्वसा मम
sūta uvāca | purā tadā varaṃ vavre supraṇamya śivaṃ natā | rakṣaṇīyā tvayā nātha sudeheyaṃ svasā mama
سوت نے کہا—قدیم زمانے میں اُس نے تب ایک ور مانگا۔ شیو کو گہرا پرنام کرکے دَندوت ہو کر بولی—“اے ناتھ، میری بہن سُدےہا کی آپ حفاظت فرمائیں۔”

The verse highlights śaraṇāgati (surrender): through humble prostration and sincere prayer, the devotee seeks Śiva’s protective grace, affirming Him as Nātha—the compassionate Lord who safeguards His devotees and those they entrust to Him.
The request is made directly to Śiva as the accessible, personal (saguṇa) Lord who responds to devotion. In Linga-worship, this same attitude of reverent bowing and petitioning for protection is central—approaching Śiva as the living refuge embodied in the Linga.
A practical takeaway is praṇāma with prayer: bow before Śiva (or the Śiva-liṅga), mentally offer the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” and dedicate the well-being of family or dependents to Śiva’s guardianship.
