Nāgeśa-jyotirliṅga-prādurbhāvaḥ — The Manifestation of the Nāgeśa Jyotirliṅga
अन्ये च ये न जानन्ति विधानं स्मरणं परम् । नमश्शिवाय मंत्रेण ध्यायंतश्शंकरं स्थिताः
anye ca ye na jānanti vidhānaṃ smaraṇaṃ param | namaśśivāya maṃtreṇa dhyāyaṃtaśśaṃkaraṃ sthitāḥ
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Establishes that lack of ritual knowledge (vidhi) does not bar access to Śiva when pañcākṣarī-japa with dhyāna is present—key for lay pilgrims and householders.
Mantra: नमश्शिवाय
Type: panchakshara
Role: liberating
It affirms that even without detailed ritual knowledge, sincere mantra-japa and steady meditation on Śiva establishes the devotee in Him—highlighting grace and inner remembrance as primary.
By naming Śaṅkara and prescribing the Panchākṣarī (“Namaḥ Śivāya”), it supports Saguna-focused devotion—where the mind rests on Śiva (often through Liṅga worship) and becomes steady through japa and dhyāna.
Continuous repetition of “Namaḥ Śivāya” with meditation on Śiva (smaraṇa and dhyāna); the emphasis is on inner steadiness rather than complex external rites.
