Worship of Gajānana and the Procedure of Aupāsana-Homa
मायान्तु प्रकृतिं विद्यादिति माया श्रुतीरिता । तज्जान्येतानि तत्त्वानि श्रुत्युक्तानि न संशयः
māyāntu prakṛtiṃ vidyāditi māyā śrutīritā | tajjānyetāni tattvāni śrutyuktāni na saṃśayaḥ
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Sthala Purana: Doctrinal identification of Māyā with Prakṛti; not tied to a specific shrine narrative.
Significance: Frames śruti-backed discernment (viveka) of Māyā/Prakṛti as essential for sādhana: knowing bondage as bondage is the doorway to seeking Śiva’s grace.
Role: teaching
Cosmic Event: Doctrinal grounding: Māyā = Prakṛti as the material-causal matrix through which limitation and world-appearance proceed.
It identifies Māyā with Prakṛti as a Śruti-taught principle, framing bondage as arising from Nature’s veiling power; liberation in Shaiva Siddhanta comes by discerning these tattvas and turning to Pati (Shiva) who transcends them.
The Linga signifies Shiva beyond Māyā-Prakṛti; worship of Saguna Shiva (with form) purifies the mind and tattva-awareness, leading the devotee toward realization of the Nirguna, Māyā-transcending Shiva indicated by the Linga.
Practice tattva-viveka (discriminative contemplation) alongside japa of the Panchakshara “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” supported by Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrāksha as Shaiva disciplines to weaken Māyā’s veiling and fix awareness in Shiva.
