The Determination of Śiva as the Meaning of Praṇava
यत्पादपद्मस्मरणाद्यस्य नामजपादपि । न्यूनं कर्म भवेत्पूर्णन्तं वन्दे साम्बमीश्वरम्
yatpādapadmasmaraṇādyasya nāmajapādapi | nyūnaṃ karma bhavetpūrṇantaṃ vande sāmbamīśvaram
جس کے کنول جیسے قدموں کے سمرن سے، اور جس کے نام کے جپ سے بھی، ناقص عبادت کامل ہو جاتی ہے—اُما سمیت اُس ایشور، سامب شِو کو میں سجدۂ تعظیم پیش کرتا ہوں۔

The verse teaches that devotion (bhakti) to Pati—through pāda-smaraṇa (remembering Shiva’s feet) and nāma-japa—has the power to perfect what is lacking in one’s ritual or discipline, because grace completes human effort.
It affirms Saguna worship: Shiva as Īśvara “with Umā” (Sāmba) is approached through accessible practices like remembrance and name-recitation, which support and even compensate for incomplete external observances such as Linga-pūjā when performed with sincere devotion.
Practice nāma-japa of Shiva (classically the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and pāda-smaraṇa—steady contemplation of Shiva’s lotus-feet—as a daily sādhanā, especially when one cannot perform full ritual procedures.
