व्यासशौनकादिसंवादः | Vyāsa–Śaunaka and the Sages: Opening Dialogue of the Kailāsa-saṃhitā
ततः सूतः प्रसन्नात्मा मुनीनालोक्य सुव्रतान् । पप्रच्छ कुशलान्तेपि प्रोचुः कुशलमात्मनः
tataḥ sūtaḥ prasannātmā munīnālokya suvratān | papraccha kuśalāntepi procuḥ kuśalamātmanaḥ
پھر خوش دل سوت نے نیک عہد والے مُنیوں کو دیکھ کر اُن کی خیریت پوچھی؛ اور اُنہوں نے بھی اپنی خیریت بیان کی۔
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
It establishes the purity of the narration: respectful inquiry and harmony between teacher and seekers. In Shaiva understanding, such sattvic fellowship (satsanga) becomes the doorway for receiving Shiva-tattva and transforming bondage (pāśa) through right listening.
Though the verse is conversational, it frames the sacred setting where Linga-glorification and Saguna Shiva’s līlās are transmitted. The welfare inquiry signals a dharmic, receptive atmosphere required to absorb the fruits of Shiva-kathā and Linga-bhakti.
The implied practice is disciplined listening (śravaṇa) with humility and mutual respect—approaching the teacher with a calm mind. As a practical takeaway, begin Shiva-kathā with a brief purification such as mental japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” to steady the heart.
