Pavamāna Soma as the consecrated, purifying power that energizes the sacrifice and grants vīrya (ritual and heroic potency).
Soma (Pavamāna)
Invocatory and energizing—purification leading into martial/heroic uplift (vīrya).
The dashati draws on mixed Ṛgvedic sources typical of the Sāmavedic Pavamāna collections; explicit single-family attribution is not secure from the provided data.
Used in Soma-yajña as Pavamāna material aligning the purification of Soma with the activation of deities who receive and respond to the offering.
Mantra 1
अग्न आ याह्यग्निभिर्होतारं त्वा वृणीमहे आ त्वामनक्तु प्रयता हविष्मती यजिष्ठं बर्हिरासदे
Agni, come hither with the (kindred) fires; thee, as Hotṛ, we choose: may the well-prepared oblation, rich in offerings, reach thee; most excellent in sacrifice, sit thou upon the sacred grass.
Mantra 2
अच्छा हि त्वा सहसः सूनो अङ्गिरः स्रुचश्चरन्त्यध्वरे ऊर्जो नपातं घृतकेशमीमहे ऽग्निं यज्ञेषु पूर्व्यम्
For, O son of strength, Aṅgiras, the ladles move towards thee in the sacrifice; we adore Agni, the offspring of nourishment, whose locks are of clarified butter, the ancient one in sacrifices.
Mantra 3
अजीजनो अमृत मर्त्याय अमृतस्य धर्मन्नमृतस्य चारुणः सदासरो वाजमच्छा सनिष्यदत्
Thou, O immortal Soma, hast generated for the mortal, according to the ordinance of immortality, the lovely immortal (draught); ever-flowing, may it win for him strength and sustenance.
It centers on purified Soma as the power that makes the sacrifice effective, so that strength (vāja), fame (śravas), and heroic potency (vīrya) arise for the worshippers.
Agni is invited as the sacrificial priest who receives and carries offerings, while Indra is the warrior-lord who is gladdened by Soma and then brings protection and rewards to the singers.
They belong to the Soma-sacrifice setting, especially the Pavamāna (Soma-purification) chant sequence sung by the Udgātṛ group during the pressing service.
