Mantra 1
Clan after clan, desiring the prize, (invite) for you the guest, Agni, beloved of many; with domestic hymn I praise him, with the thoughts of vigorous worship.
Mantra 2
Agni, the seer, the purifying, the priest set foremost, belonging to the five races,—him we worship, him of great praise.
Mantra 3
Agni, purify thyself, thou of good works; bestow upon us lustre and excellent vigour; place (also) wealth and enjoyment in me.
Because the dominant ritual orientation is toward Indra’s power and success; Agni appears as the necessary purifier and carrier who makes Indra-directed offerings effective.
It teaches that desired results come through disciplined effort joined with true power and correct knowledge—especially knowledge of the sacrificial procedure (vidā).
Agni is asked to purify himself and grant varcas (splendour), suvīrya (excellent vigour/strength), draviṇa (wealth), and yoṣa (well-being/comfort), while lifting the oblations to the gods.
